AUTISM ALLIANCE

NEWSLETTER No.1  MAY 2009

Hi everyone, this is our first official Newsletter.  We have lots to tell you about, so I’d better get started.

One of our goals when we set out on this journey, was to raise awareness.  Not only about Autism the condition, but about the emotional ups and downs that parent, siblings and extended families must endure in everyday life.    We have also brought to the forefront the appalling state of appropriate education for our children in Victoria and specifically in Melbourne’s West.   I am so pleased to say that we have reached thousands of people that amazingly knew nothing or very little about Autism.

The amount of support we have received has been overwhelming from the general public, Local Councils, Government and the Business world alike.

Much of our work to date has been setting up of structures within the organization, gaining public support through awareness and a small amount of time has been spent on fundraising.

Now that most of our background work has been completed we will be focusing most of our efforts on fundraising and this is where we need YOUR help.   If you are able to donate some time or expertise, we have many jobs that need doing.  Everything from office work, to wrapping, to working at fundraising functions.  Everyone has the ability do something so please come forward and offer a little bit of your time and perhaps the time of your mum, dad, partner or friends.  The work is not hard and in most cases a lot of fun.

We have just had a fundraising sausage sizzle at Bunning’s Altona on Sunday 17h May.

A BIG thank you to all who helped out on the day.  We had a fun day and raised lots of money and awareness.  It is amazing how many people come along and offer assistance in one form or another.   Don’t forget out Diamond Dance on the 11th July.  Please go to our Events calendar for more details.

We can keep you updated through this newsletter on a regular basis.  If you would like us to send you an electronic copy,  please either phone me Anne Mallia on 0408 316 751 or email me at    annemariemallia@optusnet.com.au with your details and you will receive regular newsletters from us.

We hope to be giving you lots of good news when we next write.

Remember to be Kind to yourself today.
